Tree and Shrub Pruning

Tree and shrub pruning is essential to a well-groomed and maintained commercial lawn. The skilled ICON crew is trained to prune in a way that promotes plant health on your commercial property. Pruning also acts as preventive maintenance, addressing both insect and disease damage. Our crew removes dead or dying branches, branches injured by disease or pests, branches that rub together, and branch stubs, ensuring proper pruning techniques.

Benefits of pruning:

Maintain Plant Health and Aesthetics

Promote healthy and controlled plant growth

Increased Oxygen

Pruning opens up tree canopies, increasing airflow and light to stems and branches allowing for more flowers, leaves and fruits.

Control Growth

Removal of dead, diseased, or injured plant parts to promote healthy growth.

Protect People and Commercial Property

Removal of branches and limbs that are overgrown and causing hazardous conditions such as obstruction of driving lanes and walking paths.

Fertilization and Weed Control

At ICON, we partner with our clients to promote healthy turf growth and control turf and landscape bed weeds. We thoroughly inspect your grounds for signs of invasive weeds and can design a customized weed control program. This program reduces insect and rodent harborages, protects your lawn and landscape plants from invasion, manages vegetation, minimizes fire hazards, and enhances the overall appearance of your commercial property.

ICON operates on the Three Application Program: Spring, Summer, and Fall applications of dry granular slow-release fertilizer, pre-emergent, and broadleaf weed control to ensure a lush, vibrant, and weed-free turf.

There are three major types of weeds we look out for:

Perennial Weeds

Examples of perennial weeds include dandelions, thistles, and daisies. These weeds develop massive, complex root systems, enabling them to regrow every year. They are challenging to eliminate because even if the root system is removed, any remaining fragments can lead to resurgence of the entire system.

Annual Weeds

Examples of annuals include chickweed and groundsel. These weeds germinate, flower, and die within a year, but can quickly spread seeds and establish a persistent presence in your lawn or garden.

Bulbil-Producing Weeds

Examples of bulbil-producing weeds include Oxalis and buttercups. These weeds produce networks of miniature bulbs that usually require chemical treatment for effective eradication.

Power Edging

Power edging mechanically removes overgrown turf along sidewalks and curb lines to create a professional, clean, and uniform look. Power edging is often an overlooked practice that we take extreme pride in here at ICON.

Benefits of Power Edging:

Uniform grass lines

Removes grass clippings that accumulate on the edge of the grass

Eliminates overgrowth

Allows for a smoother snow removal process in the winter

Aerating - Commercial Grounds

To aerate our commercial clients’ properties, ICON employs commercial-grade machinery that utilizes hollow tines or spoons to bring soil cores to the surface, ensuring long-term effectiveness. We run a core aerifier over the commercial lawn multiple times in different directions to maximize soil compaction reduction.

Aerification enhances moisture and air penetration into compacted soils, promoting the establishment of deeper and healthier root systems. It also stimulates microbial activity involved in decomposing the thatch layer.

The ideal time for aerating is between late August and early October, depending on your location. Spring or summer aerification can also be successful, especially when followed by regular, frequent watering. In spring, it is advisable to wait until you have mowed the lawn twice before aerifying.

Soil Testing

At ICON, our expert lawn care crews perform annual soil testing on existing soil to measure composition, nutrient content, acidity, salinity, toxicity, organic matter, and other properties to optimize turf growth and soil quality. It provides you with unbiased research-based fertilizer and lime recommendations to manage your soil to grow greener lawns and healthy gardens. It is a cost-effective way to maintain good plant health and maximum productivity without polluting the environment by over-application of nutrients. Soil tests are often taken in the spring and fall for established sites. As for new sites, soil tests can be done whenever the soil is in a workable phase.
